Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Praises CSIR as a National Treasure on its 83rd Foundation Day

New Delhi: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) as a “national treasure” and commended the contributions of the scientific fraternity during the 83rd Foundation Day celebration held at the NASC Complex, Pusa. Dr. Singh, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, and other key portfolios, highlighted CSIR’s pivotal role in shaping India’s journey toward sustainable development and scientific innovation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Singh underscored CSIR’s breakthroughs in green hydrogen technology and Agri-based startups, stating that the organization’s contributions have positioned India as a global leader in clean energy and agriculture. He emphasized that through its support for MSMEs, startups, and women in science, CSIR is not only driving economic growth but also ensuring that its innovations serve society at large.

Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed his deepest gratitude to Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar, the chief guest at the event, for his leadership and unwavering support for scientific and technical advancements in the country. “The presence of the Vice President underscores the importance of nurturing innovation and scientific inquiry to build a strong, ambitious India,” he said.

Reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, Dr. Singh noted that CSIR has been instrumental in fostering indigenization in critical sectors such as healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and agriculture. He stressed that with continued support from the Prime Minister, CSIR will play a key role in realizing India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision, particularly in areas of strategic technologies and sustainability.

The Minister also took the opportunity to acknowledge Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, former chairman of ISRO, for his leadership during India’s Mars Orbiter Mission, calling it an inspiration for the nation’s scientists and citizens alike.

As part of its Foundation Day celebration, CSIR hosted a leadership conclave where former Director Generals of the organization shared their vision and suggestions for CSIR’s contribution toward a developed India by 2047. Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of this conclave, describing it as an invaluable opportunity to learn from the stalwarts who have steered CSIR through decades of scientific evolution.

One of the most notable achievements celebrated at the event was the Purple Revolution in Jammu and Kashmir, driven by CSIR’s Aroma Mission. Through this initiative, the cultivation of lavender has transformed the region into a hub for aromatic crops and Agri-based startups. Dr. Singh lauded CSIR for empowering farmers and creating new sources of livelihood, stating, “The lavender farming revolution has not only transformed the landscape of Jammu and Kashmir but has also brought prosperity to the region.”
