New Delhi: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the ‘Common Fellowship Portal,’ a pioneering initiative by the Department of Biotechnology, aimed at creating a unified platform for applicants seeking various fellowship schemes. The launch event took place at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, where Dr. Singh highlighted the portal’s significance in aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ease of Doing Science” for the bright scientific minds of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
During his address, Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that the Common Fellowship Portal would enhance efficiency and convenience for aspiring students and startups. The portal serves as a single interface, simplifying and streamlining the application process for fellowship schemes. Applicants can create a profile on the portal, utilizing the information for different fellowship applications. This centralized approach aims to save time and energy for applicants, making the submission process more accessible and user-friendly.
Dr. Singh underscored that the initiative aligns with PM Modi’s whole-of-government approach, with one centralized portal for all research applications. Currently, departments under the Ministry of Science & Technology, including DST, DBT, and CSIR, are on board for application submissions. In the near future, application forms for other departments like ICMR, UGC, and AICTE will also be integrated into the portal.
The ‘Eligibility Calculator,’ a unique feature of the portal, was highlighted by Dr. Jitendra Singh. This feature enables applicants to assess their eligibility for various fellowship schemes by providing specific details and serves as a comprehensive data repository.
Dr. Jitendra Singh reiterated PM Modi’s commitment to providing a level playing field and equal opportunities to students and scholars, even from the remotest parts of India. He expressed confidence that the government would strive for industry linkages to bridge the gap between academia and industry, preventing brain drain from the country.
CThe portal is expected to serve as a valuable resource for Ph.D. and post-doctoral students, contributing to the advancement of research in the country.
