Union Minister C.R. Paatil Launches Enhanced ‘FloodWatch India’ App for Comprehensive Flood Monitoring

New Delhi: Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Paatil, today launched Version 2.0 of the ‘FloodWatch India’ mobile application, a significant upgrade developed by the Central Water Commission (CWC) to enhance flood monitoring and forecasting across the country. The launch event, held in New Delhi, marks a key step forward in India’s efforts to provide real-time flood information to the public, leveraging advanced technology.

Originally launched on August 17, 2023, the first version of the ‘FloodWatch India’ app provided flood forecasts at 200 level forecast stations. The newly upgraded Version 2.0 expands this capability, offering real-time information from an additional 392 flood monitoring stations. With a total of 592 stations now included, users can access a more comprehensive and detailed overview of flood conditions nationwide.

In addition to expanded coverage, the new version of the app provides vital information on the storage levels of 150 major reservoirs across the country. This feature is designed to help users better understand potential flood risks in downstream areas, offering crucial insights for both public safety and resource management.

Developed in-house by the CWC, ‘FloodWatch India’ utilizes cutting-edge technologies, including satellite data analysis, mathematical modeling, and real-time monitoring, to deliver accurate and timely flood forecasts. The app is designed to be user-friendly and is available in both English and Hindi, catering to a broad audience. Moreover, it offers information in both readable and audio formats, ensuring accessibility for all users.

One of the key features of the app is its ability to provide flood forecasts for the nearest location, allowing users to check the flood situation at the station closest to them directly from the home page. This localized approach is expected to significantly improve public preparedness and response to flood events.

The app is available for free download on both Android and iOS devices, making it widely accessible to users across the globe. Interested users can download the app from the Google Play Store here or the Apple App Store here.
