Union Home Minister Welcomes NDRF Expedition ‘Vijay’ in New Delhi

New Delhi: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, welcomed the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) mountaineering team on their successful expedition to the 21,625-foot Mount Manirang. During the event, Shah praised the NDRF jawans for their determination and resilience, highlighting the importance of such endeavors in boosting the efficiency and morale of the force.

The event featured an exhibition showcasing state-of-the-art disaster management equipment and technologies used by the NDRF. Team leaders briefed Shah on their experiences in various disaster response operations in India and abroad, including incidents in Turkey. Shah expressed a keen interest in the operations, which spanned flood rescues, landslides, and more.

Shah commended the 35 personnel of Operation Vijay, stating that their achievement is not only a personal victory but also a boost for the entire NDRF. He emphasized the role of mountaineering as a metaphor for life, instilling resilience and the pursuit of success.

Reflecting on India’s evolving disaster management approach, Shah noted the shift from relief-centric strategies to a zero casualty focus under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He highlighted the government’s efforts in enhancing the capabilities of NDRF through increased funding, training, and advanced technologies.

Shah also announced that the long-standing demand for a Risk and Hardship Allowance for NDRF personnel had been approved, with 16,000 personnel set to receive a 40% allowance. Furthermore, he revealed plans to integrate sports culture within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), with teams participating in national and international competitions.
