Union Home Minister Inaugurates 58th DGsP/IGsP Conference with Focus on Security Strategies

Jaipur: The 58th DGsP/IGsP Conference 2023 was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur. This three-day conference is being conducted in a hybrid mode. While DGsP/IGsP and Chiefs of Central Police Organisations attended the event in person in Jaipur, over 500 police officers joined through video conferencing from various parts of the country.

In the inaugural session, Shri Amit Shah took the opportunity to recognize and honor the dedication of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers, distributing Police Medals for Meritorious Service. The Union Home Minister also presented trophies to acknowledge the exceptional performance of the three best Police Stations.

A solemn moment during the event was the homage paid by Shri Shah to the martyrs from Security Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their supreme sacrifice was commemorated as a poignant reminder of the commitment and bravery exhibited by the nation’s security personnel.

Addressing the gathered law enforcement officials, Shri Amit Shah shed light on significant developments in 2023, a year marked by the initiation of the Amrit Kal. Key among these developments were the formulation of the New Education Policy and the enactment of three New Criminal Laws, aimed at replacing outdated British-era legislation. The Home Minister underscored the transformative nature of these laws, emphasizing their focus on delivering justice rather than mere punitive measures.

Shri Shah stressed the critical need for comprehensive training, extending from Station House Officer (SHO) to the highest echelons of law enforcement represented by the Director General of Police (DGP). He also highlighted the necessity of technological upgrades, spanning from local police stations to the central nerve center, the Police Headquarters (PHQ), to effectively implement these new laws. The Union Home Minister emphasized the importance of interlinking databases and adopting an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven analytical approach to address emerging security challenges effectively.

Drawing attention to an overall improvement in the country’s security scenario since 2014, Shri Amit Shah noted a reduction in violence in critical hotspots such as Jammu & Kashmir, the North-East, and regions affected by Left-Wing Extremism. He commended the conference as a strategic ‘Think Tank,’ playing a pivotal role in decision-making and shaping new security strategies. Emphasizing the need for uniformity in structures, size, and skills across counter-terrorism mechanisms nationwide, he outlined the conference’s significant contribution to enhancing national security.
