
Cabinet approves signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and United States for International Development/India (USAID/India) for supporting Indian Railways to achieve Mission Net Zero Carbon Emission
New Delhi: Today, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, was briefed on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the United States for International Development/India (USAID/India) on June 14, 2023. The purpose of this agreement is to support Indian Railways in achieving the goal of Mission Net Zero Carbon Emission by 2030.
The MoU establishes a platform for Indian Railways to engage and exchange the latest developments and knowledge within the railway sector. It promotes modernization of utilities, implementation of advanced energy solutions and systems, regional energy and market integration, as well as encourages private sector participation. The agreement also includes provisions for engagement in training programs, seminars, and workshops that focus on specific technology areas such as Renewable Energy and energy efficiency, facilitating knowledge sharing.
Notably, USAID/India had previously collaborated with Indian Railways, particularly in the deployment of rooftop solar across railway platforms.
