Union Budget 2025: Dr. Jitendra Singh Calls it a Revolutionary, Futuristic Budget with Focus on Private Sector Involvement in Nuclear Energy

New Delhi: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh described the Union Budget 2025 as a “futuristic” and “revolutionary” blueprint, with an ambitious vision to drive India’s growth in the coming decades. He particularly lauded the bold announcement to involve private players in the nuclear sector, calling it a game-changer that will resonate globally. Dr. Singh drew parallels with the momentous decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open the space sector to private players, which led to remarkable outcomes within a few years.

In his interaction with various media channels, Dr. Singh said, “The Budget not only reflects the sensitivity of the Government towards the common man but also aligns with the futuristic vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The inclusion of private players in the nuclear sector demonstrates the government’s courage of conviction, much like the opening of the space sector.”

A Budget Focused on Middle Class Relief and Long-term Growth

Dr. Singh praised the budget’s sensitivity towards the middle class, noting significant tax reliefs aimed at providing financial relief to taxpayers. He also pointed out the government’s focus on ease of living with provisions such as duty exemptions on life-saving drugs. “This is a citizen-centric budget, providing relief and simultaneously propelling India’s economy toward greater heights,” he said.

The Union Minister further emphasized the Budget’s long-term vision, which includes significant investments in areas such as nuclear energy, small modular reactors (SMRs), green technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and more. He commended the government for proposing a groundbreaking Nuclear Energy Mission with the ambitious target of generating 100 GW of nuclear power by 2047, placing India at the forefront of the global energy transition.

Revolutionizing the Nuclear Sector

A key highlight of the budget was the announcement of an amendment to the Atomic Energy Act to enable private sector participation in the nuclear energy domain. Dr. Singh said this move would not only add value to India’s growing economy but would also help India become a global leader in nuclear energy. “India is not just following others anymore; we are setting the pace. The Nuclear Energy Mission, backed by a ₹20,000 crore investment in Small Modular Reactors, will solidify India’s position as a global leader in clean energy,” Dr. Singh remarked.

He stressed that while the benefits of these initiatives might not be immediately apparent, their impact will ripple out, affecting not only India but also the global community in ways that are unexpected from India.

Strategic Focus on Innovation, Start-ups, and Technology in the Budget

Dr. Singh also appreciated the increased focus on technology-led development. The Budget proposes a significant ₹10,000 crore increase in the Fund of Funds for Startups, aiming to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs. Additionally, 50,000 new Atal Tinkering Labs will be set up in government schools over the next five years, boosting innovation among the youth.

The establishment of a National Geospatial Mission and the introduction of PM Gati Shakti to modernize land records and urban planning were also highlighted. Dr. Singh noted that these initiatives would enhance geospatial infrastructure, contribute to food security, and help realize Viksit Bharat @2047, a vision that aligns with the government’s development goals.

Strengthening Research and Development for a Technologically Advanced Future

The budget also prioritizes scientific research, with ₹20,000 crore allocated for research and development (R&D) and innovation. Dr. Singh welcomed the allocation, which he said would play a pivotal role in advancing India’s technological capabilities and supporting future generations of scientists and researchers. He also noted the importance of PM Research Fellowship Scheme, which aims to provide 10,000 fellowships at top institutions like IITs and IISc over the next five years.

Boosting Maritime and Agricultural Development

The Union Minister also pointed to the significant investment in maritime development, with a proposed ₹25,000 crore allocated to the Maritime Development Fund, which is expected to stimulate the maritime industry and create more jobs. Similarly, he welcomed the targeted investments in agriculture, including the launch of a second gene bank for future food and nutritional security.

A Visionary Approach to India’s Growth

Dr. Singh concluded by stating that the Budget 2025-26 reflects the Prime Minister’s vision of a technologically advanced and self-reliant India. The emphasis on innovation, nuclear energy, green technology, and start-ups aligns perfectly with the country’s goals for Viksit Bharat @2047. He expressed optimism that the initiatives laid out in the Budget would not only propel India towards achieving its developmental goals but would also raise the country’s global stature.
