UGC and Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti Jointly Launch Training Program on Content Creation and Teaching in Bharatiya Languages

New Delhi: In alignment with the National Education Policy-2020’s emphasis on promoting teaching and learning through local languages in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS) have announced a joint initiative. The initiative aims to capacitate faculties across disciplines in HEIs for content creation and teaching through Bharatiya languages, fostering a sustainable ecosystem within institutions.

The National Education Policy-2020 emphasizes the use of mother tongue/local languages as a medium of instruction to increase access, Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER), and promote the strength and vibrancy of Bharatiya languages. Furthermore, the policy underscores the need for high-quality study materials/books in local languages for various courses.

To address these objectives, UGC and Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti are conducting a two-day training program on Content Creation and Teaching through Bharatiya Languages. The face-to-face training sessions will be organized in different zones during February and March 2024. The program is designed to equip senior faculties with the necessary skills to create content and teach effectively in local languages.

HEIs are urged to nominate two senior faculties, preferably at the professor or associate professor level, for the training program. One faculty member should be from the Science discipline, and the other from Commerce/Social Science. The nominated individuals must possess proficiency in speaking, writing, and teaching in the local language where the university is located.

The nomination process involves filling out a Google Form, which is accessible through the link provided in the official communication. Before completing the form, a Nomination Letter, duly filled and signed by the Competent Authority, must be prepared. The scanned copy of the Nomination Letter will be required for upload in the Google Form.

The last date to submit the Google Form for nominations is January 31, 2024. This joint initiative aims to address crucial aspects such as authentic terminology, standard language, machine translation, text editing, and multilingual teaching, ensuring the effective implementation of teaching in Bharatiya languages at the higher education level.
