New Delhi: Tuhin Kanta Pandey, the current Finance Secretary, officially assumed charge today as the Secretary, Department of Revenue (DoR), Ministry of Finance. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet confirmed his appointment on Wednesday, stating that Pandey will continue to hold the designation of Finance Secretary alongside his new responsibilities.

A 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Odisha cadre, Pandey brings a wealth of experience from his long and distinguished career in public administration. Prior to this, he served as Secretary of the Department of Investment & Public Asset Management (DIPAM) since October 2019, as Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) since August 2024, and most recently as Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) from November 2024. Both DIPAM and DPE are integral to the Ministry of Finance, reflecting Shri Pandey’s pivotal role in managing financial and administrative affairs at the highest level.

In addition to his contributions to the Union Government, Pandey has held several significant positions in the State Government of Odisha and also served at the Regional Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). At the Union level, he worked as Joint Secretary in the Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog), Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, and Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce. In Odisha, he served as the administrative head of key departments including Health, General Administration, Commercial Taxes, Transport, and Finance. Shri Pandey also contributed as Executive Director of the Odisha State Finance Corporation and Managing Director of the Odisha Small Industries Corporation.

Pandey holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and an MBA from the University of Birmingham, UK. His academic credentials, combined with his extensive administrative experience, make him a well-equipped leader for the Department of Revenue.

As he assumes charge, Pandey’s expertise and proven leadership are expected to strengthen the Department of Revenue’s efforts in enhancing tax administration, revenue generation, and contributing to India’s economic growth. His appointment signals continued focus on effective governance and financial management within the Ministry of Finance.
