Tri-Service Women Representation Shines at World Defence Show 2024 in Riyadh

Riyadh:  The ongoing World Defence Show 2024 in Riyadh has become a stage for Tri-Service women representation, embodying the vision of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-led Government to leverage Nari Shakti (Women Power) across diverse domains. Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, Colonel Ponung Doming, and Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash have proudly represented the Armed Forces in various seminars, especially those focused on International Women in Defence.

On February 7, 2024, Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, a distinguished fighter pilot from the Indian Air Force, took the spotlight as a panellist at the seminar titled ‘International Women in Defence – Investing in an Inclusive Future.’ Hosted by Saudi Ambassador to the United States, Princess Reema bint Bandar Al-Saud, the event provided a platform for Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth to share her inspirational journey of breaking barriers and achieving the distinction of being part of India’s revered fighter pilot club. Her insights on leadership, resilience, and the evolving role of women in modern warfare resonated with the diverse audience, leaving a lasting impression.

Colonel Ponung Doming, an officer from the Indian Army, commands the world’s highest Border Task Force situated above 15,000 feet in the Northern sector. With over 20 years of service and multiple firsts to her credit, Colonel Doming’s leadership as an Engineering officer has been pivotal in numerous challenging assignments.

Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash of the Indian Navy showcased her expertise in maritime security and operations, emphasizing the crucial role women play in safeguarding India’s extensive coastline and ensuring regional stability. Her presence at the event contributed to fostering stronger ties and collaboration between India and other nations in the maritime domain.

The participation of these three exceptional women officers at the World Defence Show 2024 serves as a testament to the evolving and integral role of Indian women in the defence landscape. The trio is set to deliver an inspirational talk about their remarkable journeys at the International Indian School in Riyadh on February 8, 2024, reaching out to approximately 600 school children from various schools. The event aims to showcase the diverse talents and leadership skills of Indian women in uniform, inspiring future generations to follow their dreams and explore new frontiers.

The World Defence Show 2024, which began on February 4, 2024, will culminate on February 8, 2024. Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt led the Indian delegation for the show, further strengthening India’s presence and collaboration in the global defence arena.
