Travel-Related Mpox Case Confirmed in India; No Link to Ongoing Global Outbreak

New Delhi: A previously suspected case of Mpox (monkeypox) has been confirmed as a travel-related infection, with laboratory testing identifying the presence of the West African clade 2 Mpox virus in the patient. This isolated case, consistent with 30 similar cases reported in India since July 2022, is not connected to the ongoing global public health emergency related to the more severe clade 1 Mpox virus, as declared by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The patient, a young male who recently returned from a country experiencing active Mpox transmission, is currently being treated in isolation at a designated tertiary care facility. He remains in stable condition with no systemic illness or underlying health issues.

Public health authorities have initiated contact tracing and monitoring protocols to contain the spread of the virus. Officials have reassured the public that there is no indication of any widespread threat, and the situation is being managed in accordance with established health protocols.
