Rayagada: Train operations on the Rayagada route came to a standstill for nearly six hours late Wednesday night after a massive boulder crashed onto the railway track near Majhigariani Temple in Odisha’s Rayagada district. Quick action by railway staff helped avert a possible major accident.
The incident took place when the Visakhapatnam-Korba Link Express was entering Rayagada. The train is said to have dragged the boulder for almost a kilometre before coming to a stop, causing significant damage to the track and stranding passengers for hours.
Railway rescue teams arrived promptly, removing the obstruction and carrying out emergency repairs. By around 5 am, single-line train movement was restored.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has initiated an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the incident, while officials have lauded the swift response that prevented any casualties.
