Bhubaneswar: The much-awaited toy train service in Nandankanan Zoo has finally resumed after a gap of seven years.
Forest Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha inaugurated the toy train facility during a state-level Wildlife Week function. He also laid the foundation stone for the ropeway project.
The toy train with 4 coaches has a sitting capacity of 74 passengers. There will be around 12 joy rides everyday from 9 am to 5 pm. A broad gauge of 1.2 km has been laid out in the park.
The zoo authorities have procured the engine and coaches from a New Delhi-based firm at a cost of around Rs 82 lakh.
An aerial ropeway facility will soon come up in the park. Estimated to be constructed with a cost of Rs 13 crore, the ropeway covering a distance of around 620 metre will connect the zoo with the botanical garden on the other side of Kanjia lake.
