
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated the Odia Olympians today and handed over cash rewards to the four Hockey players for their spectacular performances in the Tokyo Olympics.
As Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas were part of the men’s Hockey team that won bronze medal in the Olympic games, they were handed over cash rewards of Rs 2.5 crores each and jobs in the Odisha police in the ranks of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). The India men’s hockey team had created history by ending their campaign with a podium finish after 41 years.
Similarly Deep Grace Ekka and Namita Toppo were part of the Indian women’s hockey team that also created history by entering into an Olympic semi-final and finishing at fourth position. They were also handed over cash rewards of Rs 50 lakh each.
The Chief Minister felicitated the hockey players from Odisha in an event today organised at the Kalinga Stadium. He also commended the spirits of the women players while hailing the superlative performances of the men. The CM also assured them full support in the future.
Birendra Lakra, who is the vice-captain of the Indian hockey team also presented a team jersey signed by all the members of the team to the Chief Minister. Similarly, Deep Grace Ekka who is also the vice-captain of women’s hockey team presented the team jersey to the CM for the support provided by Odisha government.
