Tokyo Paralympics: India bags three medals in a historic day

In an eventful day at Tokyo Paralympics today, India wins three medals- two silver and one bronze. While paddler Bhavina Patel settled for silver in the women’s singles Class 4 table tennis finals in the morning, High Jumper Nishad Kumar bagged a silver in the Men’s High Jump T47 finals in the evening and Vinod Kumar won bronze medal in the Men’s Discuss Throw F52 event towards the end of the day.

Nishad jumped 2.06m, which equals the Asian record set by him earlier this year. Another Indian athlete Ram Pal finished fifth with a personal best of 1.94m in this category. USA’s Roderick Townsend bagged gold medal with a jump of 2.15m and his teammate D. Wise settled for silver with 2.06m.

Vinod Kumar’s best effort of 19.91m brought him the bronze medal. He also set a new Asian record. Gold and silver went to Poland and Croatia in this event.

Currently India stands at 45th position in the medal tally with three medals. China tops the tally with 101 medals.
