Tiny Tots of DAV Pokhariput Embody the Spirit of Giving in ‘Dan Utsav’

Bhubaneswar: On the eve of the Joy of Giving Week, the young students of the morning wing at DAV Public School, Pokhariput, took part in “Dan Utsav,” an annual celebration of philanthropy. The children donated essential food items and hygiene products to the Missionaries of Charity Old Age Home in Satyanagar and Ashraya Orphanage in Dumduma, exemplifying the spirit of service and compassion.

Accompanied by their teachers and supervisor, the students distributed items such as rice, potatoes, groceries, toiletries, detergents, new clothing, bed sheets, blankets, and adult diapers. Their act of kindness reinforced the timeless saying, “Service to mankind is service to God.”

This initiative, led every year by the morning wing supervisor Sanghamitra Satapathy, instills in the children the values of empathy and community support. By visiting these homes, the students learn the importance of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One world, one family,” reflecting India’s deep-rooted cultural ethos. The experience also helps the children become aware of the challenges faced by others, fostering a sense of responsibility and compassion.

Bipin Kumar Sahu, Principal of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, lauded the students’ efforts and encouraged parents to promote the spirit of giving beyond the school’s activities. He urged them to instill the practice of philanthropy throughout the year, turning the “Dan Utsav” into a lifelong tradition. The Joy of Giving Week, celebrated annually from October 2-8, promotes the integration of Indian values into everyday life and reminds everyone of the joy found in helping others.
