Three Major Trains to Originate from Bhubaneswar New Station

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to railway connectivity, East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced that three important long-distance trains—Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express, Bhubaneswar-Secunderabad Visakha Express, and Bhubaneswar-Visakhapatnam Intercity Express—will soon originate from Bhubaneswar New Station. The move aims to facilitate passengers from North Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas, with a focus on students, medical travelers, and daily commuters. The implementation date for this change will be announced shortly.

The decision to shift these train origins to Bhubaneswar New Station will provide significant relief to residents of North Bhubaneswar, reducing congestion at Bhubaneswar Main Station. In addition, all three trains will have a stoppage at Mancheswar Station, further improving accessibility for passengers in the area.

The move is expected to be particularly beneficial for students studying in North Bhubaneswar, which houses several major educational institutions, including engineering, medical, and management colleges. With improved rail connectivity, students will have more convenient travel options for their academic and personal needs. Similarly, patients and families seeking treatment at hospitals in North Bhubaneswar will find it easier to travel, thanks to better railway accessibility.

Residents of North Bhubaneswar and adjacent areas will also experience improved travel convenience as they will no longer need to commute to the city’s main railway station to board these major trains. This will save time and ease the burden on urban transportation infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar New Station is set to undergo major redevelopment under the Amrit Station Scheme, aiming to enhance passenger amenities and improve infrastructure. Some of the key upgrades planned include:

  • Expansion and modernization of the circulating area to manage passenger movement efficiently.
  • Construction of an additional Foot Over Bridge (FOB) for better platform connectivity.
  • Upgradation of waiting rooms and toilets to ensure passenger comfort.
  • Improvement of platform illumination and overall infrastructure for better accessibility.
  • Installation of Coach Watering Facilities for long-distance trains.
  • Provision of lifts on all platforms to assist passengers, especially those with mobility challenges.
  • Enhancement of the existing station building to accommodate growing passenger traffic.

With these developments, Bhubaneswar New Station is set to become a vital railway hub, catering to the needs of students, residents, and travelers in and around North Bhubaneswar. The enhanced connectivity will not only streamline train operations but also contribute to a seamless and efficient travel experience for thousands of passengers.
