Task Force Meets to Advance Tourism Development in North East India

New Delhi: The 4th meeting of the Task Force for the Development of Tourism in North East was convened in New Delhi, bringing together officials from all eight North Eastern States along with various stakeholders. Representatives from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura were present, alongside key government bodies such as NITI Aayog and several ministries including Civil Aviation, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise, Textile, Tourism, Culture, and Information & Broadcasting, along with private partners.

The objective of the meeting was to deliberate on strategies and an action plan for the comprehensive and sustainable development of tourism in the North East Region. The discussions centered around engaging stakeholders, including private entities, to harness the region’s immense tourism potential effectively.

The formation of the Task Force stems from decisions taken during the meeting of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) in September 2022. The proposal to establish a Task Force for tourism development in the North Eastern Region was subsequently endorsed, leading to the formal constitution of the Task Force on October 20, 2023, under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (M/o DoNER). This Task Force comprises representatives from relevant ministries, state governments, and other stakeholders.
