Swift Action by Odisha Minister Brings Long-Awaited Relief to Differently-Abled Girl in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: A decade-long wait for a disability certificate came to an end for Sushree Sangita Sahu, a differently-abled girl from Ter village in Mahakalapada block, after Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling intervened and ensured that the document was issued within just seven hours.

Sushree Sangita’s struggle had gone unnoticed for years—despite being eligible, she was unable to access key government welfare schemes due to the absence of a formal disability certificate. Her plight recently came to the fore through newspaper reports and social media posts, which prompted swift action from the state’s health authorities.

Moved by her situation, Minister Mahaling immediately instructed the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Kendrapara to expedite the process. Following the directive, a medical examination was arranged without delay, and the certificate was issued the same day—bringing long-overdue relief to Sangita and her family.

The timely response has been widely appreciated in the Mahakalapada region, with local residents and social workers applauding the minister’s decisive and compassionate approach. Sangita’s family expressed deep gratitude for the support, which will now enable her to receive government allowances and participate in various welfare programs.

Minister Mahaling reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of the differently-abled and urged officials to remain alert and responsive to similar cases. He also encouraged the public to bring such issues to the department’s attention, stressing that no one should be left behind in accessing their rightful benefits.
