Sulochana Das takes charge as first female Mayor of Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Newly elected Biju Janta Dal (BJD)representative Sulochana Das took oath as the Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday. She became the first female mayor of Bhubaneswar.

During the recently concluded municipal election, Sulochana Das had registered a win with 174562 votes, defeating her opponent with a margin of 61,143 votes.

Before being elected as the Mayor of Bhubaneswar, she was the State Commissioner for Persons with Disability (PwD).

A journalist turned politician, she started her political career with Congress, and later in 2017, she joined BJD.
