Subhadra Shakti Mela 2025 Draws Huge Crowds, Showcases Odisha’s Rich Handicrafts and Culture

Bhubaneswar: The second day of the Subhadra Shakti Mela 2025 witnessed a massive turnout as thousands of visitors thronged Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. Following its grand inauguration, the enthusiasm and excitement at the mela remained high, with people exploring the vibrant stalls set up by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Producer Groups (PGs) from across Odisha. The event continued to highlight the remarkable talent and entrepreneurial spirit of women, while also offering visitors an opportunity to experience Odisha’s cultural heritage firsthand.

One of the major attractions of the day was the live demonstration stalls, where skilled artisans from different districts showcased the intricate process of crafting traditional handicrafts. Visitors were fascinated by the making of lac products by Bampada Jaukandhei SHG from Remuna in Balasore and papier-mâché art brought to life by Sri Jagannatha PG from Anandpur in Keonjhar. Wooden crafts and statues created by Maa Baibhava Laxmi SHG from Nuapada drew significant attention, while Satyanasi PG from Kendrapada exhibited exquisite golden grass products. Sabai grass weaving was demonstrated by Swayang Sahayak Dal from Mayurbhanj, and pottery-making was showcased by Kulibahal Terracotta PG. These live showcases provided an enriching experience, allowing visitors to witness firsthand the craftsmanship behind Odisha’s traditional art forms.

The marketplace at the mela continued to see overwhelming sales, with stalls offering a diverse range of products, including handicrafts, handlooms, millet-based products, organic produce, home essentials, and natural wellness items. Traditional crafts like Dhokra art, Sabai grass products, and Kotpad textiles received immense appreciation, while the handloom section featuring Sambalpuri, Kotpad, and Bomkai sarees saw brisk sales. The food and spice stalls attracted health-conscious buyers, especially those showcasing millet-based snacks and organic spices. SHG-run food courts remained a favorite, with visitors indulging in authentic millet-based delicacies that not only highlighted Odisha’s culinary heritage but also reinforced the significance of sustainable eating habits.

The success of the mela was evident from the total sales on the first day alone, which exceeded ₹15 lakh, underscoring the growing demand for SHG-produced goods. The event proved to be a significant platform for women entrepreneurs, providing them with the opportunity to expand their reach and boost their income.

As the sun set, the excitement continued with cultural performances that left the audience mesmerized. Students from Satyabadi Sangeet Mahavidyalaya delivered a breathtaking Odissi dance performance, showcasing Odisha’s rich artistic legacy. The evening concluded with a musical performance by Sashank Sekhar, Lipsa Mohapatra, and their team, captivating the crowd with soulful renditions.

With an extraordinary turnout on the second day, the energy and enthusiasm at the Subhadra Shakti Mela 2025 continue to grow. Visitors are invited to be part of this grand celebration of empowerment, entrepreneurship, and cultural heritage, as more exciting showcases and performances await in the days ahead.
