ST/SC Dept issues guidelines for ‘Parents as Partners’ forum for Residential schools in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The ST&SC Development Department has issued new guidelines to encourage parents to participate in their children’s education in residential schools. The guidelines emphasize the importance of Parents as Partners (PaP) in school activities, particularly in residential schools where children stay for almost 10 months of the year.

According to the new guidelines, parents’ participation in their children’s education is highly essential to motivate the students and the community to understand the role and responsibilities of a welfare state in bringing socio-economic transformation in society through imparting quality education to the younger generation.

Commissioner cum Secretary, Roopa Roshan Sahoo shared her thoughts on the initiative, saying, “The parents have every right to see, assess and advice for the conducive learning environment in a school in which their children’s future is built.”

The Parents as Partners forum is a platform for parents and teachers to work together in the development of educational institutions and students in residential schools. The new guidelines aim to create a partnership between parents and teachers to improve the educational experience for students.

“The forum will continue to be an essential platform for parents and teachers to work together in the development of educational institutions and students in residential schools,” shared Sahoo.

The ST&SC Development Department is responsible for providing additional support to scheduled tribes and scheduled caste students in their education through providing residential facilities. The Department is taking steps to make Parents as Partners more informative, educative, and communicative in a novel manner.

There are 1735 schools under the department with around 6000 hostels in which over 5 lakh ST&SC students are continuing their school education in elementary to higher secondary. With the new guidelines, the Department hopes to create a more inclusive and collaborative learning environment for all students.
