State funeral for noted poet Jayanta Mahapatra

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s literary world mourns the loss of a luminary Jayant Mahapatra as the legendary author and poet, bids farewell. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed profound grief at the passing away of this literary giant, whose contributions to English and Odia literature were nothing short of extraordinary.

In his message, the Chief Minister lauded Jayant Mahapatra as a literary genius whose words transcended language barriers and elevated Odia literature onto the global stage. He stated, “Jayant Mahapatra was a true genius, equally adept in English and Odia literature. His work not only enriched our literary heritage but also brought Odia literature to a wider audience. He was a source of inspiration for many budding writers, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”

Mahapatra’s verses, like a mesmerizing melody, will forever resonate with readers, a testament to the profound power of human expression. His writings, often adorned with vivid imagery drawn from daily life in Cuttack, encapsulate the essence of Odia culture and society, he added.

In honour of his significant contributions, the Chief Minister announced that the late poet will receive a state funeral, a mark of respect for his literary legacy. on Monday, Jayant Mahapatra will be laid to rest with full state honors, attended by dignitaries, admirers, and fellow literary enthusiasts.

The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, wishing peace and solace for the departed soul.
