Bhubaneswar: The Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department in Bhubaneswar has taken a significant stride towards inclusivity and empowerment by launching a skill training initiative for hearing-impaired youths in the hospitality sector. The program, aimed at providing valuable employment opportunities, will train 150 youths in five batches through the Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been formalized between the SSEPD Department and the Institute to facilitate the necessary skill training. Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary of the SSEPD Department, highlighted the importance of providing skill training to persons with disabilities (PwDs) as a means to open new avenues for gainful employment in the hotel and hospitality sector. The State Government’s commitment to creating more employment opportunities for PwDs is evident through initiatives like these, he emphasized.
The MoU signing ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officers from the SSEPD Department. Sri Dillip Kumar Ray, Special Secretary, and Smt. Sharada Ghosh, Principal, were signatories on behalf of the Department and the Institute, respectively.
The skill training program is expected to empower hearing-impaired youths by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge required in the hospitality sector. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader vision of fostering inclusivity and ensuring that every individual, regardless of abilities, has access to opportunities for personal and professional growth.
As the first batch of 30 youths embarks on this transformative journey, the SSEPD Department’s initiative is poised to make a meaningful impact on the lives of hearing-impaired individuals, creating a pathway for their active participation and success in the dynamic hospitality industry.
