Srimandir Ratna Bhandar Repairs to Be Completed by Akshaya Tritiya

Puri: The repair work on the Ratna Bhandar of Shree Jagannath Temple is expected to be completed by Akshaya Tritiya this year, according to Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Chief Administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA). The update came following a high-level meeting held today to review progress and discuss preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra.

Providing details on the restoration work, Padhee informed that five rusty iron beams between the outer and inner Ratna Bhandar have been replaced with stainless steel beams. Stone replacements and chemical washing are also in progress, with floor repairs set to follow. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is overseeing the restoration to ensure long-term structural stability of the Lord’s treasury.

The meeting also addressed the unauthorized use of drones and mobile phones within the temple premises. A committee led by the District Magistrate has been formed to monitor and enforce regulations, with penalties to be imposed under the Sri Jagannath Temple Act. Padhee emphasized the need for stricter laws to prevent such violations.

Among other key decisions, the SJTA announced the launch of a dedicated YouTube channel for the Holy Trinity on Pana Sankranti (which coincides with Akshaya Tritiya), alongside the release of an Odia New Year calendar. The temple budget for the financial year 2025-26 was also finalized.

Additionally, the Amruta Anna Kotha Bhog will now be prepared using organic ingredients, and an information center with LED displays will be set up near Gundicha Temple for the convenience of devotees.

The management committee has approved a new uniform policy, pending state government approval, and discussions are underway on installing an air-conditioning system at the Nata Mandap to improve devotee experience.

With Rath Yatra preparations in full swing, authorities are working to ensure seamless festival arrangements, while the timely completion of Ratna Bhandar repairs will mark a significant milestone in temple conservation efforts.
