‘Son of Adam’ by Amartya and Swastik Wins Best Musical Film Award at FICIMAD

Bhubaneswar: Director-producer duo, Amartya Bhattacharyya and Swastik Choudhury, shines once again as their sixth venture, ‘Son of Adam,’ clinches the prestigious “Best Musical Film” award at the Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Madrid 2024 (FICIMAD 2024). The announcement was made on March 15th at La Filmoteca Española (Cine Doré) in Madrid, Spain.

‘Son of Adam’ unfolds as a cinematic marvel, capturing the essence of Indian history and mythology through the lens of music. The film, a cinematic adaptation of rock-icon Rupam Islam’s album ‘Aami,’ takes viewers on a mesmerizing journey through the rich tapestry of Indian culture. Shot against the backdrop of scenic locales in Odisha, Kolkata, Darjeeling, and the Andamans, the film explores uncharted territories, both geographically and artistically.

The festival, renowned for celebrating independent cinema, praised ‘Son of Adam’ for its innovative storytelling and captivating visuals.

Following its world premiere at the 77th International Film Festival of Salerno in Italy, ‘Son of Adam’ continues to garner accolades on the global stage. The film is set to premiere at the San Antonio Independent Film Festival 2024 in Ecuador, representing India as the sole Asian entry in the Feature Fiction Competition.

Rupam Islam, the creative force behind the film’s musical brilliance, expresses, “I am not surprised at all. I chose to present the film as the subject is very dear to me, and the way the film has been conceptualized, it thoroughly justifies the visualization of the songs in the album.”

Director Amartya Bhattacharyya known for his films like Adieu Godard, Khyanikaa, Runanubandha,  shared, “This is the first award for Son of Adam, and what better way to start than an award for Best Musical Film. No words are enough to thank Rupam Islam for putting his trust in me.”

Lead actor and producer Swastik Choudhury shares his excitement, emphasizing the film’s cinematic vision and the power of music. “This award validates the cinematic vision of this film and is a testimony to the power of music,” he states.
