Sisir Saras Mela 2024 Records Staggering Business Turnover of Over 14 Crores

Bhubaneswar: The vibrant and culturally rich Sisir Saras Mela 2024, organized by the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) under the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department, concluded on Monday evening at Biju Patnaik Playground in Baramunda. This year’s edition stands out with an impressive milestone – a remarkable total business turnover exceeding 14 crores in just 10 days. The grand success of the event underscores its pivotal role as a dynamic platform for rural women empowerment and flourishing businesses.

In its commitment to women empowerment, Sisir Saras Mela served as a significant platform for rural women entrepreneurs. The esteemed guests emphasized that the event plays a crucial role in enhancing the economic and social status of rural women, providing opportunities for their products to reach national and international markets.

During the Mela, Madan Mohan Handloom of Jajpur district and Chhattisgarh’s Nari Shakti (Kosa Silk) emerged as the highest sellers in their respective categories, earning them accolades and mementos from ORMAS during the concluding ceremony. Additionally, various groups were felicitated for their Best Innovative Product, Best Display, and overall participation in the event.

The event also acknowledged and celebrated the excellence of stalls from entities such as Basudha stall by PR&DW Department, Mo Khata & Clean City by BMC, SDGs Stall by Planning and Convergence Department, and OMBADC. These stalls were recognized for their outstanding display and activities in the Best IEC Stall category.

ORMAS Nabarangpur for Mukhya Mantri Maka Mission, Mission Shakti RIPC of Ganjam, Rubber from Mayurbhanj, Lemon Grass from Koraput, and Pineapple products of ORMAS Rayagada received special recognition for their exceptional display of schemes in the Theme Pavilion of ORMAS.

The SISIR SARAS Mela, which ran from January 6th to 15th, showcased the cultural diversity and craftsmanship of 26 states, including Odisha, featuring over 400 stalls selling handloom, handicrafts, and delectable food items. The event’s success is a testament to the flourishing entrepreneurial spirit and cultural vibrancy within the region.
