
New Delhi: The Government of India has declared seven days of state mourning from December 26, 2024, to January 1, 2025, to honor the memory of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, who passed away on December 26 at AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi.
As a mark of respect, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast across the country and at Indian Missions and High Commissions abroad during the mourning period. All official entertainment has been suspended.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, India’s first Sikh Prime Minister, was a towering figure in Indian politics and a respected economist. His tenure as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 was marked by significant economic reforms and a commitment to inclusive development. His contributions to shaping modern India earned him widespread respect, both domestically and internationally.
The government has announced that a state funeral will be accorded to the late leader, with the date and time to be confirmed. On the day of his funeral, the National Flag will also fly at half-mast.
