
New Delhi: Sanjay Malhotra, the current Revenue Secretary, has been appointed as the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The announcement was made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Monday, with Malhotra set to take over the role on Wednesday for a tenure of three years.
A seasoned bureaucrat with over 33 years of experience, Malhotra is a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Rajasthan cadre. His academic credentials include a Computer Science degree from IIT-Kanpur and a Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.
Malhotra has held significant positions across various sectors, including power, information technology, finance, taxation, and mining. Before serving as Revenue Secretary, he was Secretary in the Department of Financial Services, where he contributed to key financial reforms and policies.
