Sambalpur: In a momentous event, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Samaleswari Temple Area Management and Local Economy Initiatives (SAMALEI) project in Sambalpur today. The ceremony included the Chief Minister seeking the divine blessings of Maa Samaleswari, offering prayers for the peace and prosperity of the state’s residents.
The SAMALEI project, executed over the last three years, marks a significant transformation of the 16th-century Samaleswari Temple. The comprehensive initiative encompasses peripheral development of the shrine, the construction of a heritage corridor, provision of amenities for pilgrims, enhanced access to the temple, and the development of the Mahanadi riverfront.
Commencing in February 2021 with an initial investment of Rs 200 crore, the project has witnessed a total expenditure of Rs 290 crore by the state government. The transformational work has not only revitalized the temple complex but has also introduced various modern facilities for the convenience of devotees and visitors.
Key features of the SAMALEI project include the establishment of Bhakta Niwas, a new Trust Board Office, a museum, park, cafeteria, common amenities center, dipa ghara (lamp house), and Mahanadi Alati. The project is poised to enhance the overall experience for pilgrims and tourists while preserving the historical and cultural significance of the Samaleswari Temple.
The unveiling of the SAMALEI project reflects the government’s commitment to heritage conservation, pilgrimage site development, and bolstering the local economy through thoughtful initiatives. The transformed Samaleswari Temple Area stands as a testament to Odisha’s dedication to preserving its cultural heritage and fostering spiritual sanctuaries for generations to come.
