Sambalpur Railway Station Undergoes Major Yard Restructuring for Modernization

Bhubaneswar: In line with Indian Railways’ ambitious plan to upgrade key stations nationwide, significant yard restructuring work has commenced at Sambalpur Railway Station, a major hub under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) zone. This modernization initiative is set to enhance operational efficiency, improve train management, and cater to growing passenger and logistics demands in the region.

Sambalpur Railway Station plays a crucial role in both passenger transport and regional logistics, making it an important link in the railway network. The ongoing modernization project is designed to increase the station’s handling capacity, streamline train operations, and offer better services to passengers. Once completed, passengers can expect smoother train operations, reduced waiting times, and improved overall service quality.

As part of the yard restructuring, Indian Railways will implement several significant changes:

  • New Platforms: Two new platforms will be constructed, expanding the station’s capacity to accommodate more trains and passengers.
  • Additional Lines: Extra lines will be added to ensure smoother movement and control of trains, thereby reducing delays and enhancing punctuality.
  • Improved Train Flow: The remodeling includes the shifting of the Bay Line, Loco Reversal Line, and Inspection Carriage Siding, with plans to extend the Bay Line to a full-length platform. This will allow trains to enter the station without detentions at nearby stations.

The entire project is expected to take 4.5 months (135 days) to complete, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to upgrading infrastructure in line with increasing passenger demand and regional development.

To facilitate the restructuring work, Indian Railways has announced temporary diversions and cancellations of certain train services. Five pairs of trains will be diverted via Sambalpur City Station, providing stoppages for passenger boarding and detraining. The diversions, essential for maintaining smooth operations during construction, are scheduled as follows:

  1. Puri-Rourkela-Puri Express (18126/18125): From both directions, 20th September 2024 to 5th February 2025.
  2. LTT-Bhubaneswar-LTT Express (12879/12880): From LTT, 21st September 2024 to 1st February 2025; from Bhubaneswar, 23rd September 2024 to 3rd February 2025.
  3. LTT-Puri-LTT Express (22865/22866): From LTT, 19th September 2024 to 30th January 2025; from Puri, 24th September 2024 to 4th February 2025.
  4. Lalgarh-Puri-Lalgarh Express (20471/20472): From Lalgarh, 22nd September 2024 to 2nd February 2025; from Puri, 25th September 2024 to 5th February 2025.
  5. Puri-Jodhpur-Puri Express (20813/20814): From Puri, 25th September 2024 to 5th February 2025; from Jodhpur, 21st September 2024 to 1st February 2025.

To ensure passenger convenience, these diverted trains will have a 5-minute stoppage at Sambalpur City Station.

Additionally, the 08169/08170 Jharsuguda-Sambalpur-Jharsuguda MEMU train service will be cancelled from 20th September 2024 to 5th February 2025.

This modernization project underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, showcasing strides in indigenous infrastructure development. The improvements at Sambalpur Railway Station will not only boost local and regional connectivity but also strengthen India’s national logistics and transportation networks.
