Bhubaneswar: A COVID-19 relief package of Rs 11 crore for OMFED farmers of Odisha has been announced to support their livelihood amidst the pandemic.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced the package under which each milk farmer will receive a financial assistance up to Rs 6,000 to meet their expense towards purchasing of fodder.
Around 1.20 lakh farmers are likely to benefit from this initiative.
In his statement Patnaik said “Dairy farming plays an important role in the rural economy and supports the livelihood of small and marginal farmers to a great extent. However, the decrease in the demand for milk and other dairy products during the pandemic has badly affected their livelihood. For the economic development of farmers, the state Government decided to announce the financial assistance package for the dairy farmers.”
