Bhubaneswar: In a determined effort to enhance cleanliness and hygiene, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Bhubaneswar Railway Station has fined 581 individuals for spitting and littering during March 2025, collecting a total fine of ₹1,17,100. The enforcement drive, undertaken under the Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR), is part of a broader initiative to ensure a cleaner and more hygienic railway environment.
To strengthen these efforts, a Special Task Force has been deployed to monitor cleanliness violations and impose penalties on offenders. The Task Force works in close coordination with Station Managers, Ticket Collectors, RPF personnel, and officials from the Commercial and Operating Departments to maintain stringent cleanliness norms.
In addition to enforcement measures, a Special Campaign has been launched to raise awareness among passengers about the importance of keeping railway premises clean. This campaign features public announcements, posters, banners, and outreach programs through various media channels. Officials emphasize that a clean railway station is not only essential for compliance but also crucial for public health and passenger comfort.
Railway staff have been given the authority to fine individuals found engaging in spitting, littering, and other activities that violate cleanliness regulations. Prohibited activities include throwing waste, cooking, bathing, urinating, and defecating in railway premises or train compartments. The initiative aligns with East Coast Railway’s ongoing focus on strict vigilance, ensuring that all stations under its jurisdiction uphold high standards of cleanliness.
Passengers and rail users are encouraged to dispose of garbage in designated dustbins and utilize toilets and washrooms provided at railway stations. Authorities urge all travelers to avoid spitting on platforms and within station premises, contributing to a healthier and more hygienic environment.
The railway administration has reiterated its commitment to enforcing cleanliness measures strictly, calling on passengers to cooperate and uphold hygiene standards. With continued monitoring and sustained awareness campaigns, ECoR aims to create a cleaner and more pleasant railway experience for all commuters.
