RPF Cracks Down on Vandalism at Madhubani Railway Station

New Delhi: A major act of vandalism disrupted train services at Madhubani Railway Station on February 10, when miscreants damaged 73 glass windows of AC coaches on Train Number 12561 Swatantrata Senani Express (Jaynagar–New Delhi). The sudden attack created panic among passengers, and in the absence of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) or Government Railway Police (GRP) post at the station, the culprits managed to flee the scene.

Acting swiftly, the RPF of East Central Railway launched an investigation and registered a case (Crime No. 168/2025) at the RPF Post in Darbhanga under Sections 145(b), 146, 153, and 174(a) of the Railways Act. A special team was formed to track down those responsible for the incident.

During the investigation, intelligence gathering and technical evidence helped authorities identify a juvenile involved in the act. The individual was arrested and has since confessed to the crime, expressing remorse. Further inquiries are underway to identify and apprehend others responsible for similar acts of destruction. The RPF has assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of damaging railway property.

Railway authorities have reiterated that railway infrastructure is a national asset, and any attempts to damage it are punishable by law. The RPF, in collaboration with state authorities and GRP, has intensified security measures to prevent such incidents and ensure passenger safety.

Under Section 153 of the Railways Act, any act that endangers the safety of railway passengers can lead to imprisonment of up to five years. Section 174(a) also penalizes any obstruction of railway operations, carrying a punishment of up to two years in prison or a fine of ₹2,000. Railway officials have urged the public to respect railway property and avoid unlawful activities that threaten public safety.
