Round Table Discussion on India-UK Defence Cooperation Held at Manohar Parrikar IDSA

New Delhi: A comprehensive round table discussion on India-UK defence cooperation took place at the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) on January 16, 2024. The event brought together key figures from various domains, fostering a nuanced dialogue on strengthening bilateral ties in the defence sector.

The panel included Amb Sujan R. Chinoy, Director General of Manohar Parrikar IDSA; Mr Richard McCallum, CEO of the United Kingdom India Business Council (UKIBC); Lt Gen (Dr) Subrata Saha (Retd), Former Deputy Chief of Army Staff; Vice Adm Satish Ghormade (Retd), Former Vice Chief of Naval Staff; Maj Gen Abhay Dayal, ADG Acquisition Tech (Army), Ministry of Defence (MoD); Shri Amit Cowshish, Former AS and FA (Acquisition), MoD; Shri MZ Siddiqui, Distinguished Scientist and DG (Aeronautical Systems), DRDO; Dr (Smt) Chandrika Kaushik, DG (PC&SI), DRDO; and Dr Sumit Goswami, Director, Directorate of Planning and Coordination, DRDO.

The discussions delved into multifaceted aspects of defence collaboration, encompassing technological advancements, strategic partnerships, and collaborative research initiatives. Amb Sujan R. Chinoy highlighted the significance of fostering strong ties between India and the UK in the defence realm. The UKIBC CEO, Mr Richard McCallum, expressed optimism about the potential for enhanced cooperation, citing the evolving geopolitical landscape.

Former Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen (Dr) Subrata Saha, and Former Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm Satish Ghormade, provided valuable insights from their extensive military experience. The discussion also featured perspectives from key figures in defence acquisition and planning, emphasizing the need for streamlined collaboration.
