New Delhi: Ropni Kumari, the promising defender of the Indian Women’s Hockey Team, reflects on her journey and development over the past year, attributing her progress to consistent opportunities to showcase her skills with the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team. At just 19 years old, Ropni has already left an indelible mark in the realm of hockey, participating in several prestigious tournaments and earning accolades for her stellar performances.

Ropni played a pivotal role in the team’s triumph at the Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2023, clinching the Gold medal. Her journey continued as she represented the nation at the 2023 4 Nations Junior Women’s Invitational Tournament in Dusseldorf, Germany, and the 2023 FIH Junior World Cup in Santiago, Chile, where she showcased her talent in all six games.

Reflecting on her achievements, Ropni expressed gratitude towards the support staff, coaches, and teammates for their unwavering support and encouragement. “It was a rewarding year for me, filled with learning and growth opportunities. I am thankful to the support staff and my teammates for their constant support, which allowed me to flourish as a player. Winning the Gold medal at the Women’s Junior Asia Cup remains one of the highlights of my career,” shared Ropni.

Recently named among the 33-member National Women’s Team Core group training at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru until May 16th, Ropni’s inclusion underscores her remarkable progress and potential. Selected from a rigorous assessment squad of 60 members following selection trials on April 6th and 7th, Ropni is eager to make her mark at the senior level.

Training alongside seasoned players of the Senior Team has been a transformative experience for Ropni. “It’s been an incredible learning curve for me, being surrounded by the best players in the country. They offer invaluable guidance and ensure we feel supported at all times,” she shared.

When asked about the advice she’s received from senior players, Ropni emphasized their emphasis on handling pressure and maintaining composure during challenging matches. “Their guidance on managing pressure has been invaluable. It’s an area where I believe I can improve, and their mentorship has been instrumental in my growth as a player,” Ropni elaborated.

Looking ahead, Ropni remains steadfast in her determination to earn her debut for the Senior Team. “Representing the country is a dream shared by every athlete, and I am no exception. This year, our team is focused on growth and development, and I am committed to working harder to be prepared whenever I am called upon to join the senior squad.
