Revenue Minister Urges ORS Trainees to Ensure Citizen-Friendly Governance

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday called upon Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) trainee officers to uphold integrity, sincerity and public commitment while discharging their responsibilities in the administration.

The Minister made these remarks during a special interactive session with 74 ORS trainees at the Revenue Officers’ Training Institute (ROTI) in Gothapatna.

During the session, ROTI Course Coordinator Soumyakanta Soumyadarshi briefed the Minister on the training curriculum and capacity-building programmes being conducted at the institute. Suresh Pujari later interacted with the trainees on various aspects of revenue administration, laws and field-level governance challenges.

Highlighting the growing importance of technology in land administration, the Minister stressed the need for greater technical expertise in Hi-Tech Survey operations. Referring to the successful implementation of such surveys in districts like Sambalpur, Subarnapur and Deogarh, he said similar initiatives would soon expand to other parts of the state, making technical proficiency essential for revenue officers.

He advised the institute to strengthen its training modules with more skill-based and technology-oriented learning and suggested specialised advanced training for selected officers in Hi-Tech Survey operations.

The Minister also underlined the importance of practical field exposure alongside classroom learning. Considering Odisha’s vulnerability to natural disasters, he urged trainee officers to gain adequate expertise in disaster management as part of their professional training.

Emphasising people-centric governance, Pujari said officers should remain free from arrogance and focus on timely and transparent public service delivery. He urged trainees to thoroughly understand revenue laws and apply them positively for public welfare.

“By considering yourselves as public servants and the people as the real stakeholders, you can set exemplary standards in administration,” he said, while encouraging officers to use practical wisdom and common sense in challenging situations.

At the end of the programme, ROTI Director Diganta Rautaray thanked the Minister and assured that the institute would incorporate the suggestions to further strengthen technical and practical training for revenue officers.
