Resident Doctors Meet Health Ministry Over Safety Concerns Following Kolkata Incident

New Delhi: Representatives from the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), Indian Medical Association (IMA), and Resident Doctors’ Associations from various Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Delhi convened with the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in New Delhi, following a recent incident involving a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

The associations expressed their deep concerns over the safety and security of healthcare workers in their workplaces. The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare listened to their demands and assured them that all possible measures would be taken to ensure the protection of healthcare professionals. The Ministry emphasized its awareness of the situation and sensitivity to the concerns raised.

It was noted that 26 states have already enacted legislation to protect healthcare workers within their jurisdictions. In response to the concerns voiced by the associations, the Ministry committed to establishing a committee that will explore all possible measures to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals. Representatives from all stakeholders, including state governments, will be invited to contribute their suggestions to the committee.
