
Bhubaneswar: The Odia music fraternity plunged into mourning following the demise of renowned music composer Abhijit Majumdar, who passed away at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Sunday. He was 54. Majumdar had been undergoing treatment for multiple health complications, including high blood pressure and chronic liver disease, since September 4, 2025. His condition worsened on Saturday night, following which he was placed on life support. He breathed his last on Sunday.
A towering figure in the Odia music industry, Abhijit Majumdar carved a unique space for himself with his versatility and melodic sensibility. Over the course of his illustrious career, he composed music for more than 700 songs across Odia and Sambalpuri films and music albums, leaving an indelible mark on contemporary Odia cinema.
Majumdar was best known for his work in popular films such as Love Story, Sister Sridevi, Golmaal Love, and Sriman Surdas. His compositions, often celebrated for their emotional depth and mass appeal, resonated strongly with audiences and played a significant role in shaping the soundscape of modern Odia films.
The news of his untimely demise sent shockwaves across the State, with filmmakers, singers, lyricists, and fans expressing deep sorrow over the loss. Tributes poured in on social media, with many remembering him not only as a gifted composer but also as a warm collaborator who nurtured young talent and contributed tirelessly to the growth of the industry.
