Raksha Mantri Virtually Inaugurates Prerna Sthal Memorial in Sikkim

Sikkim: In a solemn tribute to the 22 brave soldiers who lost their lives during a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood at South Lhonak Lake last year, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the Prerna Sthal memorial at Burdang, Sikkim. Due to adverse weather conditions in Gangtok, the Raksha Mantri conducted the inauguration from Headquarters, Trishakti Corps in Sukna, West Bengal.

In his address, Rajnath Singh paid homage to the soldiers’ bravery and unwavering dedication, emphasizing that the Prerna Sthal immortalizes their sacrifice and courage. “This memorial will forever remind the people of the soldiers’ valor and serve as a source of inspiration,” he remarked, underlining the significance of such tributes in fostering national pride.

“Every Indian possesses a sense of national pride, but it is memorials like this that awaken and reinforce that feeling, bridging the past and future generations. The National War Memorial in New Delhi is a shining example, and the Prerna Sthal will stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of our soldiers,” he added.

Raksha Mantri also highlighted the immense sacrifice soldiers make, terming it a debt the nation can never repay. “They protect us with their lives, and we owe them our deepest gratitude,” he said, saluting their bravery.

The ceremony, organized by the Trishakti Corps, saw the participation of dignitaries including Sikkim Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani, and other senior officials. Families of the fallen soldiers were honored, and Defence Secretary-designate Shri RK Singh and Lt Gen Zubin A Minwalla, General Officer Commanding, Trishakti Corps, were present alongside Rajnath Singh.
