Raksha Mantri Approves Group Insurance Scheme for Border Roads Organisation Casual Paid Labourers

New Delhi:  In a significant move towards ensuring the welfare of Casual Paid Labourers (CPLs) engaged by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO)/General Reserve Engineer Force, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has given the nod to launch a Group (Term) Insurance Scheme. The scheme, offering an insured value of Rs 10 lakh, is designed to provide financial support in case of any unfortunate demise of CPLs while executing ongoing project works.

The arduous nature of work undertaken by CPLs, exposed to hazardous environments, inclement weather, challenging terrains, and occupational health risks, necessitated the introduction of this insurance scheme. Recognizing the humanitarian aspect and considering reported fatalities during their engagement, this insurance coverage aims to boost the morale of CPLs and extends a form of social security and welfare for those working in remote and far-flung areas of the nation.

The scheme aligns with the Raksha Mantri’s recent initiatives for the welfare of CPLs, demonstrating the government’s commitment to addressing their needs. Some of the recently approved measures include:

  1. Preservation & Transportation of Mortal Remains: Ensuring dignified handling and transportation of deceased CPLs.
  2. Transport Allowance Entitlement: Facilitating better logistics with enhanced transport allowances for attendants.
  3. Funeral Assistance Enhancement: Substantially raising funeral assistance from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000.
  4. Advance Payment for Ex-gratia Compensation: Providing immediate financial relief with an advance payment of Rs 50,000 in the event of CPLs’ death.

These comprehensive welfare measures underscore the government’s commitment to the well-being of CPLs, acknowledging their crucial role in the nation’s infrastructure development and security. The Group Insurance Scheme is expected to provide a safety net for CPLs and their families, fostering a sense of security and stability.
