Bhubaneswar: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Digvijaya Singh on Thursday visited the World Skill Center (WSC) in Bhubaneswar during his tour of Odisha, praising the institution as a national model for skill-based education and workforce development.
Deeply impressed by the state-of-the-art infrastructure and the center’s focus on empowering youth with future-ready skills, Shri Singh commended the WSC for its strategic vision and outstanding performance. “While many states have skill development centers, the World Skill Center stands apart with six successful batches and a 99% placement rate. It is not just skilling youth but also up-skilling trainers, setting new national benchmarks,” he said.
During his visit, Singh toured the WSC’s high-end training departments, including facilities dedicated to Vertical Transportation, Mechanical & Electrical Services, Mechatronics, and the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Welding. He also visited the Learning Resource Centre, where he interacted with students undergoing industry-aligned training under the Finishing School model.
The World Skill Center, established under the Odisha Skill Development Authority, aims to create a job-ready workforce by blending global standards with local opportunities. Singh applauded the WSC for its strategic alignment with industry needs and its role in shaping the next generation of professionals. “This is the future of vocational education in India,” he said.
The MP’s visit was facilitated by Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education, and Pinaki Patnaik, Additional Secretary and Chief Operating Officer of the WSC, who guided him through the center’s key initiatives.
Also present were Principal T. Thambyrajah, Deputy Principal Jeetamitra Satpathy, Chief Technical Officer Dhananjay Sarangi, and Chief Finance Officer Bibhu Behura, along with other members of the senior management team.
