Prof. Brian Greene Visits IIT Delhi, Interacts with Students and Faculty

New Delhi: Renowned theoretical physicist, author, and professor at Columbia University, Prof. Brian Greene, visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi today, engaging in stimulating discussions with students and faculty members. IIT Delhi Director, Dr. Rangan Banerjee, along with faculty and students, warmly welcomed Prof. Greene to the campus.

During his interaction, Prof. Greene expressed his gratitude for the enriching experience and commended the students for their curiosity, creativity, and commitment to scientific and technological advancements. He emphasized that their passion for innovation would play a crucial role in shaping a better future.

Recognizing India’s remarkable strides in scientific research, Prof. Greene shared his optimism that the country is poised to emerge as a global leader in science and technology. He praised IIT Delhi as a world-class institution, acknowledging its exceptional faculty and their role in mentoring some of India’s brightest minds.

Students engaged Prof. Greene with insightful questions on topics such as the convergence and divergence of physics and mathematics and the nuances of string theory. He provided in-depth responses, sharing his work on the mathematical foundations of string theory and its potential implications for the field of physics.

Prof. Greene also toured IIT Delhi’s Research & Innovation Park, inaugurated by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, during the Institute’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The facility serves as a hub for collaboration between IIT Delhi, industry, entrepreneurs, and government agencies, fostering innovation and product development.

The Research & Innovation Park is dedicated to accelerating research translation and technological breakthroughs, offering an incubation space for start-ups and fostering industry-academia partnerships. Equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, boardrooms, conference halls, and training rooms, the Park plays a vital role in amplifying the technological and societal impact of research and galvanizing entrepreneurial aspirations among IIT Delhi’s students and faculty.

Prof. Greene’s visit left a lasting impression on the IIT Delhi community, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and inspiring future generations of researchers and innovators.
