Prize Distribution Ceremony for 16th National Youth Parliament Competition to be Held in New Delhi

New Delhi:  The eagerly anticipated Prize Distribution Function of the 16th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2019-20 for Universities/Colleges is set to take place on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building, Parliament House Complex in New Delhi.

The ceremony will be presided over by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Law and Justice; Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture. Shri Meghwal will be responsible for distributing prizes to the outstanding students and institutions for their commendable performance in the competition.

One of the highlights of the event will be a repeat performance of the ‘Youth Parliament’ sitting by the students of the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, which secured the top position at the national level in the 16th National Youth Parliament Competition.

The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has been organizing Youth Parliament Competitions for Universities/Colleges for the past 27 years. The 16th edition of the competition involved the participation of 36 Universities/Colleges from across the country.

The Youth Parliament Scheme, under which the competition is organized, aims to instill the spirit of self-discipline, tolerance for diverse opinions, righteous expression of views, and other virtues of a democratic way of life among the younger generations. The scheme also familiarizes students with the practices and procedures of Parliament, techniques of discussion and debate, and helps develop self-confidence, leadership qualities, and the art and skill of effective oratory.

The prestigious ‘Running Shield’ and Trophy for standing first at the National Level will be awarded to the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. Additionally, Minister Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal will present Group level winner trophies to the following five Universities/Colleges that stood first at the Group level in the competition:

  1. DAV College, Jalandhar
  2. Jadavpur University, Kolkata
  3. University of Mumbai, Mumbai
  4. Chanakya National Law University, Patna
  5. Shivaji University, Kolhapur
