Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary of Urban Development & Housing, and Commerce & Transport Departments, Usha Padhee, visited Keonjhar district today to review key urban development and transport-related works.
Padhee began her visit with an on-ground inspection of Sponge Colony under Ward No. 9 of Keonjhar Municipality. The area has been facing persistent waterlogging and drainage issues for several years.
Accompanied by senior officials from WATCO and the district administration, the Principal Secretary Padhee assessed the root causes of the problem and explored possible engineering and administrative solutions. She also interacted with local residents, assured them of early redressal, and urged them to extend their cooperation for effective implementation of the proposed remedial measures.
Following this, Padhi visited the Government Bus Stand and the Municipal Bus Stand operated by the Odisha State Transport Corporation (OSTC). She reviewed the facilities available for commuters, assessed infrastructure gaps, and held discussions with OSTC managers and regional transport officers to streamline services and address operational challenges.
Later in the day, the Principal Secretary convened a comprehensive review meeting with the District Collector, Project Director of District Urban Development Authority, and Executive Officers of all Urban Local Bodies in the district. She took stock of the progress of various ongoing urban and transport projects and emphasized the need for accelerated implementation.
In view of the upcoming monsoon, Padhi directed all officials to take urgent measures to resolve drainage and waterlogging issues across the district, ensuring that citizens do not face hardships during the rainy season. She reiterated the government’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure and public transport systems in Keonjhar and other regions of the state.
