New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the 2550th Bhagwan Mahaveer Nirvan Mahotsav on the auspicious occasion of Mahaveer Jayanti, scheduled for April 21st at 10 AM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. During the event, the Prime Minister will release a commemorative stamp and coin, and address the gathering, marking the significance of the occasion.
Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar, is revered for illuminating the path of peaceful co-existence and universal brotherhood through Jain principles such as Ahimsa (Non-Violence), Satya (Truthfulness), Asteya (Non-Stealing), Brahmacharya (Chastity), and Aparigraha (Non-attachment).
Jains celebrate five major events, known as Kalyanaks, of every Tirthankar, including Mahavir Swami Ji. These events include Chyavana/Garbha (Conception) Kalyanak, Janma (Birth) Kalyanak, Diksha (Renunciation) Kalyanak, Kevaljnana (Omniscience) Kalyanak, and Nirvana (Liberation/Ultimate Salvation) Kalyanak. April 21st, 2024, marks the Janma Kalyanak of Bhagwan Mahavir Swami, and the Government is commemorating this significant occasion with the Jain community.
The event at Bharat Mandapam will feature a cultural program, along with the presence of Saints from the Jain community, who will bless the congregation with their presence and participation.
