Prime Minister Modi Unveils Transformative Initiatives in Jammu & Kashmir: Boost to Agriculture, Tourism, and Employment

Srinagar:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir program in Srinagar today, unveiling a series of initiatives aimed at catalyzing comprehensive development in the region. The highlight of the event was the dedication of the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme, a groundbreaking initiative worth Rs 5000 crores, which is expected to transform the agricultural landscape in Jammu & Kashmir.

In his address, the Prime Minister launched multiple projects under the Swadesh Darshan and PRASHAD schemes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to boosting the tourism sector in the region. Notable projects include the ‘Integrated Development of Hazratbal Shrine’ in Srinagar, part of an overarching strategy to enhance tourism infrastructure and spiritual experiences.

One of the key moments was the launch of the ‘Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Tourist Destination Poll’ and ‘Chalo India Global Diaspora Campaign.’ These initiatives aim to engage citizens and the Indian diaspora in promoting tourism, showcasing the diverse attractions of the country.

The Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes, including success stories like Nazim Nazeer, a beekeeper from Pulwama, who shared his journey of growth from 25 to 200 beekeeping boxes, creating employment opportunities for local youth. Shri Modi commended Nazeer for his entrepreneurial spirit and suggested exploring niche markets for honey production.

Ahtesham Majid Bhat, a bakery entrepreneur from Srinagar, and Hamida Bano, engaged in the dairy business, also shared their success stories. The Prime Minister praised them for their contributions to economic development, emphasizing the government’s support for youth-driven startups.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the transformative growth in Jammu & Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. He highlighted the region’s potential in agriculture, citing the Rs 5,000 crore agricultural development program focusing on horticulture and livestock.

The Prime Minister underscored the surge in tourism, with Jammu and Kashmir witnessing over 2 crore tourists in 2023 alone, breaking previous records. He unveiled plans for 40 destinations to be developed under the ‘Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice’ campaign, seeking public opinion for prioritized development.

Furthermore, Shri Modi highlighted the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, including medical colleges, AIIMS, rail services, and smart city projects. He lauded the successful transformation of J&K Bank, emphasizing transparency in recruitments and financial growth.

In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister extended best wishes for the holy month of Ramzan and Mahashivratri, reaffirming his dedication to the development of Jammu & Kashmir and the well-being of its citizens.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, and Union Minister of State, Dr Jitendra Singh, were present at the event, showcasing the collective commitment towards the holistic development of the region. The Prime Minister assured that the development campaign for Jammu & Kashmir would continue at an accelerated pace in the next five years, ushering in a new era of progress and prosperity.
