Prime Minister Modi to Dedicate NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Station Stage-I and Lay Foundation for Stage-II

Raigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to dedicate the Stage-I (2×800 MW) of NTPC’s Lara Super Thermal Power Station and lay the foundation stone for Stage-II (2×800 MW) through video-conferencing on 24th February 2024. The power station is located in Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh.

Stage-I of the Lara Super Thermal Power Station, constructed with an investment of approximately Rs. 15,800 crores, will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister. The upcoming Stage-II of the project, involving an investment of Rs. 15,530 crores, will be constructed on the available land of Stage-I, eliminating the need for additional land.

This pit-head power station will receive its coal supply from NTPC’s Talaipalli Coal block through the Merry-Go-Round (MGR) system, ensuring a consistent and low-cost supply of electricity with 24×7 availability.

The power station is equipped with highly-efficient Super Critical technology (for Stage-I) and Ultra Super Critical technology (for Stage-II), leading to lower Specific Coal Consumption and reduced Carbon-Dioxide emissions.

While 50% of the power generated from both Stage-I and II is allocated to the state of Chhattisgarh, the project is expected to significantly contribute to the power needs of other states, including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman & Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The installation of the Lara Super Thermal Power Project is creating numerous direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region. NTPC is also undertaking various Community Development initiatives in nearby areas, focusing on education, drinking water, sanitation, health, and women’s empowerment. This project is a crucial step towards achieving sustainable and reliable power generation in the region, aligning with the government’s vision of providing uninterrupted and affordable electricity across the nation.
