New Delhi:  In a prestigious ceremony, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced and addressed the 14th National Voters’ Day Celebrations in New Delhi today. The event, held on January 25, 2024, witnessed the President presenting the esteemed Best Electoral Practices Awards for the year 2023 to commendable State and District level officers for their exceptional performance in conducting elections throughout the preceding year. Noteworthy stakeholders, including government departments and media organizations, were also honored for their invaluable contributions to voters’ awareness.

Addressing the gathering, President Smt Droupadi Murmu expressed pride in the vastness and diversity of India’s democracy, highlighting the significant role played by the Election Commission in its glorious journey. She commended the Election Commission’s teams, past and present, for ensuring fair and inclusive election processes across 17 general elections and over 400 assembly elections.

Applauding the successful use of modern technology on a large scale in the country’s election processes, the President expressed confidence in further enhancing technology’s effectiveness in all activities related to the election process.

The President acknowledged the challenges faced in arranging voting facilities for citizens across the country and praised the Election Commission’s efforts, including the provision of voting at home for those who cannot go to polling stations. These initiatives, she noted, have contributed to making the election process more inclusive.

Congratulating the young voters who obtained the Elector Photo Identity Card, President Smt Droupadi Murmu emphasized their increased responsibilities. She recognized these young voters as representatives of millions of Indian youth set to play a decisive role in building a prosperous India by 2047.

The President received the first copy of ‘ECI initiatives for General Elections 2024’ from the Chief Election Commissioner, Shri Rajiv Kumar.

Since 2011, National Voters’ Day has been observed on January 25 annually to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. The day aims to create electoral awareness and encourage citizens to participate in the electoral process. The theme for National Voters’ Day 2024 is ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For sure.’
