President Murmu Honored with Timor-Leste’s Highest Civilian Award, PM Modi Hails India-Timor-Leste Ties

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu was honored with Timor-Leste’s highest civilian award, the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste. The award, presented by Timor-Leste’s President Jose Ramos-Horta, acknowledges her outstanding achievements in education, social welfare, and women’s empowerment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride in this prestigious honor, emphasizing its importance in strengthening the relationship between India and Timor-Leste. In a message shared on the social media platform X, PM Modi stated, “It is a proud moment for us to see Rashtrapati Ji being honored with the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the nation’s highest civilian award. This reflects the strong ties and mutual respect between our countries. It is also a recognition of her monumental contribution to public life for several years.”

During her visit to Dili, President Murmu engaged in discussions with President Ramos-Horta, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Addressing the media alongside her Timorese counterpart, President Murmu expressed her deep gratitude for the honor, saying, “I am deeply humbled to receive the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste. This recognition is a testament to the strong bond between our countries and our shared commitment to progress and development.”

The Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste is a distinguished honor, reserved for those who have made exceptional contributions to society. President Murmu’s receipt of this award not only highlights her dedication to public service but also underscores the deepening ties between India and Timor-Leste.
